Media

The choice of media for prints is often dictated by the original art work. Oil or acrylic on canvas is often reproduced on canvas to emulate the original as closely as possible. But sometimes an artist will want to offer alternatives to art purchasers and will have prints made on archival papers as well. Watercolor artists usually will chose a watercolor paper with texture similar to the media they used. Photographers often chose a luster photo paper or a smooth matte paper.

We have tried many different products and have found a few that provide superior reproduction quality, printability and color gamut. Breathing Color is an ink jet paper manufacturer whose products are consistently of the highest quality and printability. At Giclée of New England, Inc., we have found this media to be a favorite for fine art reproduction. We are continually testing and comparing new products in order to provide our customers with the best of the new products in all media types.

Calculating Price

Printing is charged at a cost per square inch. Use the size of the finished print including the area around the image to calculate the price. Maximum width is 44 inches by any length.

When pricing prints, add at least one inch to the image measurement and multiply the length times the width. For example, if the image is 16x20 inches multiply 17x21 to get a square inch total. 16+1=17 x 20+1= 21 = 357 sq in. Multiply the square inch measurement by the media price per square inch to get the cost of each print. If you prefer more white space around your image, add the number of inches you want to the length and width. For example, if you want two inches of white space all around add 4 inches to each side, 16x20 image : 20x24 media size, or 16+4 =20+4=24 = 480 sq. inches.

When figuring price for canvas be sure to add three inches to your image for wrapping the canvas onto standard stretcher bars. If using larger than standard bars add enough to the media size to go around the bars 5-6 inches depending upon width of bars. Cost for stretching on standard bars is united inches (length +width) times $.50.

Digital Editing of Customer Files

We can work with your digital files, but often find that they need extensive color correction or digital enhancement. Digital editing is charged at a rate of $75.00 per hour charged in 1/4 hour increments. ($18.75) This might include but not be limited to:

Color Correction
Re-sizing for print
Sharpening
Proofing
Cloning out unwanted details or Cloning in to cover missing detail
Spot and Dust Removal
Adding text or copyright information

At a rate of $40.00 per hour we can help you develop the skill you need to be prefect your own files. Within a short period of time you will be able to edit like the pros and enhance your digital imaging skills.
